...to birth! What the heck does that mean? B.R.A.I.N is a lovely acronym that I find helpful for moms and dads to use when they may forget all their rights and alternatives to laboring and birthing plans. P.S. it's impossible to remember all the things so simply bring your B.R.A.I.N. ;) This article explains more in depth what circumstances you would want to use your B.R.A.I.N. ;) B.R.A.I.N Acronym
This acronym is especially helpful when having to make on the spot decisions. It can be the make or break in you laboring without continuous monitoring (not evidence-based practice) versus remaining bed-ridden due to hospital or care provider preference when no concern to you or baby or medical augmentation is present in your labor. Simply saying, "no" or asking for more time to make your best, informed choice can open up the opportunity for you to remain as close to you birth plan as you are entitled. Whether you have set your mind to an umedicated birth experiences or receiving an epidural at the best stage in your labor, using the B.R.A.I.N acronym is key to maintaining a calm and peaceful environment for a positive birth, especially in the hospital. One aspect of my role as your Birth Doula is to guide you through the your many options for labor while pregnant, if desired, so that you are able to go into labor with predetermined choices not made under pressure or in response to fear.
